Contributions Guidelines

Pixelsurgeon welcome submissions for interviews and reviews, but please make sure that you read our General Guidelines and Small Print before submitting anything.

More than anything we value intelligent, solidly researched and well written contributions. Pixelsurgeon has gained a reputation for professional writing and insightful opinions, and for this reason only submissions of a high standard will be accepted.

Pixelsurgeon is not in a position to pay for submissions, however with a regular daily audience of up to 10,000 unique visitors per day, contributors can be assured of reaching an extremely wide audience.

General Guidelines

1) Don't send us blind submissions, but contact us first to let us know what you intend to submit. This avoids duplicate submissions and gives us chance to include your work in our production schedule.

2) Make sure all contribution, reviews and interviews are original works and if they have been published previously that express permission has been given by the copyright holder or licensee.

Similarly anyone wishing to publish anything that has previously appeared in Pixelsurgeon should seek our permission first. If in doubt, please email us.

3) Please make sure you spell check your submissions and watch out for contextual spelling errors (such as "there"/"their") which are not always picked up by spell checkers. Ideally get someone else to proof read your submission before sending it to us as that can save a lot of editing time.

4) Include all the appropriate information (which is included in the submission templates for each category) such as URLs, scores, and a synopsis.

5) Try and reach the desired word count (detailed in each template).

6) Reviews should be coherent and have a definite structure complete with a conclusion. More details are in each template.

7) When reviewing something little known or obscure for which there may not be an awful lot of graphic material, please endeavour to track down any available images. We ideally like several images to cover the news page, review/interview home page and the review/interview itself. The largest image needs to be at least 455 pixels wide and of a high quality. [Large images on review/interview pages are 455 pixels wide x 292 pixels high @ 72dpi. Thumbnails on the Reviews/Interviews index pages are 137 pixels wide x 94 pixels high @ 72dpi. The images should be different on the main images and thumbnails, but should be clear, sharp and be representative of the artist/review subject. Please submit uncompressed images where possible.]

Many record labels, movie distributors and so on have press departments who will be only too glad to help out with images if they know there will be a review or interview, so feel free to approach them. If you'd rather someone from Pixelsurgeon spoke to them, just let us know.

8) Include all submissions as attachments in Rich Text Format (.rtf), Microsoft Word format (.doc) or Text format (.txt). Do not copy and paste into your email application as this often results in hard returns at the end of lines which have to be manually removed.

9) If you need help or have any questions, please contact us.
