Posted by Reed 20 Nov 2007 19:47 My first contributions were by proxy, and some may laugh it off as a small achievement, but saying "I write for Pixelsurgeon" for the past four years has been the proudest thing in my life. Being a reviewer and post junkie here got me jobs in the USA and Japan that wouldn't have had me on the premises otherwise, gave credibility that no blog ever has or will, and provided a simple but soul-saving focus on the darkest days. I hope sincerely that if nothing else, the site is preserved for reference, a kind of bragging rights goto for those of us who consider Pixelsurgeon to be the reason newsfeeds are successful anywhere. ♥

Posted by Jon Burgerman 20 Nov 2007 19:20 Goodbye Pixelsurgeon, big thanks for all the fun and links over the years, you'll be sorely missed. And where will shameless self promotion posts now go..? Ones like these > > > Check out the new stuff in my shop, just in time for Crimbo!

Posted by Tom Muller 20 Nov 2007 11:14 I'll join in with the collective backslapping and say a big thanks to jason, reena and Rich for making Pixelsurgeon happen in the first place. 'Twas an awesome place to hang out, met some good people through it, and had fun posting sporadically. From now on we'll meet in dark, damp alleys and greet each other with a secret handshake.

Posted by Alex Amelines 20 Nov 2007 10:58 So long and thanks for all the fish! It was a good run and I'm happy I got to be part of it. I think this is a wise and painless way to end it. I think PS has had its fair share of cowbell...
||||||
Posted by Sam Gilbey 20 Nov 2007 09:51 Yep we had some good times didn't we? We're sorry to see it go, but as Jason explained, it's definitely time. Well, unless someone can figure out how to make the days twice as long, and us part-cyborg anyway. We'll take that as a no. Thanks for all your support over the years, both readers, contributors and pr folk alike.

Posted by Jason Arber 19 Nov 2007 11:05 After seven amazing years, Pixelsurgeon is shutting its doors and closing down. Pixelsurgeon is an enormous time drain and thanks to an expanding family and helping to create new moving image company Wyld Stallyons, I simply cannot devote sufficient time to it. So rather than let it die a slow lingering death, I'm taking it to the canal in a bag of rocks. This has been a tough decision, and one I've struggled with over the last couple of months. I'm sure many of you will be as heartbroken as we are. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all our contributors past and present for their amazing work, and to you, our audience for stopping by to read our news, reviews and interviews. Keep on truckin'!

Posted by Jason Arber 8 Nov 2007 08:26 Encrypted E-Mail Company Hushmail Spills to Feds Hushmail, a longtime provider of encrypted web-based email, markets itself by saying that "not even a Hushmail employee with access to our servers can read your encrypted e-mail, since each message is uniquely encoded before it leaves your computer." But it turns out that statement seems not to apply to individuals targeted by government agencies that are able to convince a Canadian court to serve a court order on the company. Testing Vinyl CDs: Groovy Up Top, Optical Down Below As for the overall sound quality, I just finished giving the vinyl side of a Sonic Kollectiv VinylDisc compilation a spin, and it sounded decent -- not as good as 180 gram, but certainly good enough to warrant consideration from bands and labels looking to offer something new to their customers: a CD that everyone can play, with a secret bonus track in the grooves on top for those who have record players.

Put a Message in a Zombie With Txt of the Living Dead An American mashup artist let passers-by put words in giant zombies' mouths last week. The show, called Txt of the Living Dead, projected 15-foot-wide, black-and-white stills from George A. Romero's classic 1968 horror flick Night of the Living Dead onto buildings. Text messages from random people on the street then filled comics-style speech balloons that were added to the images in what New York artist Paul Notzold called an "SMS-enabled interactive street performance." Scientists Use 'X-Ray Glasses' to Dissect Fossils The technology was initially developed for medical diagnostics (they're still used for chest scans), but paleontologists found the X-rays created nice images of the insides of fossils.
